Apple today released the first developer preview version of iOS 14.5. One of the important new features is the global support for 5G in the dual SIM mode of the iPhone 12 model. Previously, this feature was only available in mainland China.

The iPhone 12 model is equipped with both a physical SIM card slot and a digital eSIM card, which can realize the function of dual card dual standby. Previously, except for mainland China, the dual card mode only supported LTE networks, but now iOS 14.5 introduces support for dual card 5G networks.

A Verizon internal presentation obtained by MacRumors once stated that Apple plans to enable 5G in dual SIM mode by the end of 2020, so the arrival of this feature is a few months later than expected.
